A death at home - Expected

  • Call the GP, or attending nurse, to verify that your loved one has died
  • Consider whether any family members may wish to see their loved one prior to being taken into our care
  • Call us - 01952 460669 - and we will arrange a mutually agreeable time to attend
  • We will liaise with you from here onwards 

A death at home - Unexpected

  • If in any doubt, call the ambulance service - or, alternatively, the GP - to verify that your loved one has died
  • If you are alone, call your family or a friend to support you
  • The police MAY attend to discuss matters with you - this is routine, so do not worry
  • Call us - 01952 460669 - and we will arrange a mutually agreeable time to attend
  • We will liaise with you from here onwards, and advise you regarding any Coroner involvement

A death in hospital or hospice

  • You will be informed of the death and given the opportunity to spend some time with your loved one
  • At your convenience, call us - 01952 460669 -  for advice
  • You will need to obtain the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death from the hospital or hospice - call them to find out when it will be ready for you
  • Make an appointment at the Registrar for the district in which the death occurred - see our Registrars Information

A death in a Care or Nursing Home

  • You will be informed of the death and given the opportunity to spend some time with your loved one
  • If you haven't previously indicated that you wish to use us - give our name and telephone number to the home - 01952 460669 
  • At your convenience, call us - 01952 460669 -  for advice
  • You will need to obtain the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death from the GP registered at the home
  • Make an appointment at the Registrar for the district in which the death occurred - see our Registrars Information

A sudden death in the community (not at home/hospital/hospice)

  • You will be informed of the death by a police officer, or a responsible person present at the scene
  • You may be required to identify your loved one soon afterwards
  • The Coroner will be informed of the death and a Coroner's Officer will guide you through the necessary events that will occur
